My writing career began in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where I was editor of my high school newspaper. Now, after 20 years of corporate communications experience, I am fulfilling a five-year dream of writing for the Web.
For most of my career, I worked in Houston, Texas, for two major energy companies, Tenneco and Duke Energy. I wrote for employee communications and produced newsletters, prepared executive bios and edited press releases. I also composed public and community affairs' documents and correspondence. I conducted interviews, wrote speeches and coordinated major special events. I planned events ranging from the Houston Marathon to university lecture series and stock analysts meetings in New York City. I also spent five years researching, writing and editing copy for the human resources and legal areas.
This now takes me to my dream job with Administaff in Kingwood, Texas. I started out editing human resources and employee services copy, prepared and posted online for our 100,000+ client-employee base. Also, with my background and experience working with nonprofits, I helped develop the online Community Involvement portal here at Administaff.
As a technical and creative writer, I now specialize in researching and developing reliable human resources news, tips and information. When I think about our small-business audience looking to us for understanding, answers and solutions to their problems, I am jazzed about continuing Web opportunities, such as blogging and feature writing.
